1) Eddie brought home Bud a suprise because he was working so hard with practicing on his clarinet. Eddie brought him an old saxaphone that wsa a little beat up but it still had a great sound.
2) When he told the band his mother's name he realised after all of the reactions he got that the room he was sleeping in was actually his mother's old bed room.
3)In the glove compartment of Mr. Calloway's packard Bud found a few rocks that looked just like his rocks that he carried around in his tobacco bag. The only difference was what was written on the rocks.
4)Mr.Calloway never visited his daughter or Bud because she ran away and he had no idea where his daughter went and had absolutely no idea that he had a grandson. He really wanted to see his daughter again so much that he would look for her at every show they have.
5)Mr.Calloway's daughter ran away because she felt to pressured. Her dad wanted her to become a teacher after she went through college and she didn't want to at the time so she decided to run away.
6)I think that Mr.Calloway was so stuborn by accepting Bud because he was trying to think out of how Bud knew him and how he could think that they were related. I also think that he was thinking of his daughter and how much she missed her. I think that after he found out they were related I think that there relationship changed because now he accepts that she is gone and that he will take care of her son for her.

Bud not Buddy Response

1) Bud thinks that the girl that used to sleep in the room is dead because he was told that the girl was gone and in his book of rules it says gone means dead.
2)I don't think that Herman E. Calloway enjoys having Bud in his home because on page 185 someone points out that he doesn't have any sympathy for Bud.
3)The statement "I can't believe you, you'll take care of any stray dog through this neighborhood, but when it comes to a child all of a sudden you have no sympathy," on page 185 is said by Miss Thomas. I think she says this because Herman E. Calloway doesn't talk or say anything to Bud so he won't take care of him and lets the other members take care of him.
4)I think that on page 191 when Eddie asked Bud a question he is asking the question so that the band looks a lot better and not so scrappy. I don't think that they would want to be seen with a boy that has a scrappy suitcase so he decides to give him his old saxaphone case to carry his stuff in.
5)When the band give Bud the nickname Sleeby LaBone they were trying to get a fancy and "cool" name for him when they annouce his name on stage. They came up with the name because he is so sleepy by staying asleep until 12:30 and LaBone because he is so thin.

Interesting Fact about the Sioux

An interesting fact about the Sioux culture and how they symbolize changing from a child to an adult is that they put the children into the forest for a few days. The more interesting fact is that both boys and girls are required to do it but it is altered for girls. Girls are put out into the forest when they have there first period, after they've been "cleansed", with another older woman, but they are able to eat and drink unlike the boys. I think that this is interesting because it is a different way to symbolize bravery and courage and that both boys and girls are required to do it.
